De Airbus A300 is een tweemotorig, wide-body, langeafstandsvracht- / transportvliegtuig met een semi-schaalontwerp in een Frans-Duits ontwerp met lage vleugels. De aandrijving wordt verzorgd door twee General Electric CF-6-80C2 of Pratt en Whitney PW4000 turbofanmotoren. De vlucht van het prototype vond plaats in 1972 en de serieproductie duurde van 1972 tot 2007. In 2016 waren nog 312 van de 561 machines in gebruik. De Airbus A300 werd gecreëerd als de eerste constructie van een internationaal consortium bestaande uit voornamelijk Duitse en Franse bedrijven. De A300 werd voornamelijk gebouwd als antwoord op de vraag van American Airlines naar een nieuw vrachtvliegtuig voor lange afstanden. Air France was echter de eerste en een van de grootste luchtvaartmaatschappijen die de A300 gebruikte. De transportversie daarentegen wordt voornamelijk door FedEx gebruikt. Airbus A300 nam, ondanks het feit dat het als een zeer succesvolle machine wordt beschouwd, deel aan 8 rampen.
